About the Department
The Accounting Department is an academic division that prepares students for the world of finance and business by equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand and manage financial information. This specialization aims to train students on how to organize and analyze financial data and make strategic financial decisions that support institutional growth and sustainability. Accountants are considered the heart of any organization's financial system, as they are responsible for preparing accurate financial reports and continuously auditing accounts to ensure transparency and integrity. Students in the Accounting Department begin by learning the fundamentals, such as how to record an organization’s daily financial transactions. Through financial accounting studies, they learn how to prepare essential financial statements, including the balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement—key tools that help companies assess their financial position. Additionally, students study managerial accounting, where they learn how to use financial data to make managerial decisions that enhance internal operations and improve efficiency. In this field, an accountant’s role is not limited to just preparing numbers; it also extends to tasks such as financial auditing, which involves verifying the accuracy of financial reports and ensuring compliance with international and local accounting standards. Students also learn tax accounting, enabling them to provide financial advisory services to individuals and businesses on tax compliance and strategies for minimizing tax burdens.

Enhancing financial and accounting technologies and supplying the job market with graduates specialized in accounting, auditing, finance, and investment who possess academic and technical knowledge, capabilities, and skills, along with ethical values that enable them to face the challenges of the ever-evolving global business environment. This is achieved through conducting research, developing accounting and financial software, processing data electronically, and striving to establish an effective relationship with the business environment and the profession. Graduates are prepared to work in government agencies, institutions, and departments of accounting, auditing, financial control, insurance, banking, investment, capital markets, and e-commerce within various state sectors, as well as in foreign and multinational companies.
Department objectives
• Preparing well-qualified and adequately trained professionals capable of handling the responsibilities of accounting, auditing, finance, and investment in both the public and business sectors, based on societal needs. • Developing the educational program and course materials for all subjects in the department in line with advancements in technology and the increasing use of computer systems in operating accounting, financial, and investment information systems in the public and business sectors. • Enhancing teaching performance to meet the future needs of the department by attracting distinguished academic talents and expanding the appointment of outstanding graduates as technical trainers, as well as sponsoring them for higher studies in universities inside and outside Iraq. • Establishing a structured program for authoring, publishing, and translating essential books and references for the department's curriculum by encouraging scientific research and academic publications, increasing channels for publishing these studies, organizing seminars and scientific conferences, and motivating faculty members to attend and participate in them, as well as facilitating academic exchange visits among professors from different universities. • Contributing to the efforts aimed at developing the accounting and auditing profession through collaboration with official professional bodies in regulating industry practices. • Participating in continuing education programs to enhance the skills and efficiency of state employees and professionals in other business sectors, while also providing accounting and financial consultancy services to organizations requesting them. • Study System of the Accounting Technologies Department.
